Crystal Washington - Make Technology Your Friend

Wisdom is not having all the answers, but knowing where to find them. Learning technology in business is similar in that you can not be afraid to fail because that fear will keep you from being your best self in business. You have to ask questions, play around with it, and remember that most of the time your peers have the same fears you do.

As a small business owner, don’t compare yourself to larger brands that have entire social media and ad teams. The social media platforms you chose to join should depend on your target audience. Get on one or two social media platforms that are most beneficial to your brand, and absolutely master them.

To help make complex social media and web concepts more accessible and easy to understand - I’ve invited technology strategist, certified futurist, and friend, Crystal Washington.

Crystal Washington is a social media marketing strategist, speaker, co-founder of Socialtunities- a social media instruction brand that trains Gen Ys-Boomers on the strategic use of social media, and the author of The Social Media WHY: A Busy Professional’s Practical Guide to Using Social Media Including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+ and Blogs for Business. She is hired by corporations and associations around the globe to provide keynotes, workshops, and webinars.

Typically the things you do not enjoy doing are the things that are also sapping your productivity.” - Crystal Washington

Highlights –

  • Technology is agile, it is constantly changing - it’s okay to not get it right the first time, because most of your mess ups you’ll be able to recover from.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Let go of the fear of looking foolish.

  • No matter what the social network is, all of them have business application if your target market is living there.

  • Your job as the leader of your organization is to focus on revenue generating activities.

  • The key to efficiency - it's not about reorganizing the order in which we do things - it's a shift in how you think. You have to relinquish some control and be okay with someone else performing at 92% because it's still an A grade.

  • Focus on the things that get you repeat clients and draw in clients; administrative tasks must be handed off.

  • Boolean search is an extremely helpful tool to better target the types of results you want.

  • Eat fear for breakfast every morning! Do something that scares you everyday.
